Abiding in Love – John 15:9-10

"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love." – John 15:9-10

Devotional Reflection

Love is not just something we receive from God; it is something we are called to remain in. In John 15:9-10, Jesus invites us to abide in His love, not as a fleeting experience, but as a continual dwelling place. This abiding is deeply connected to obedience—just as Jesus remained in the Father’s love through perfect obedience, we are called to remain in His love by following His ways.

Obedience can feel like a heavy word, but in the kingdom of God, it is an act of love. To obey God is not to earn His love but to stay connected to it. When we follow His commands, we align our hearts with His, allowing His love to shape our thoughts, actions, and desires. Abiding in His love brings peace, joy, and security, no matter what is happening around us.

Are you actively remaining in God’s love? Today, choose to abide—not just by knowing His love but by living in response to it.

Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust

Breath Prayer: (Inhale) I remain in Your love…(Exhale) As I walk in obedience.

How to Practice a Breath Prayer: Find a quiet space where you can sit comfortably and take a few deep breaths to settle your heart. As you inhale, silently pray the first part of the phrase (e.g., “I remain in Your love…”), and as you exhale, pray the second part (e.g., “…as I walk in obedience.”). Repeat the prayer slowly for 2–5 minutes, letting it draw you into deeper trust and surrender.

Practical Application

  1. Assess Your Abiding: Ask yourself, in what ways am I remaining in God’s love? Are there areas where I struggle to obey and fully trust Him?

  2. Take One Step of Obedience: Identify one command of Christ that you can intentionally follow today—whether it’s showing kindness, forgiving someone, or stepping out in faith.

  3. Stay Connected to Scripture: Spend time meditating on John 15:9-10, reflecting on how abiding in God’s love is connected to obedience. Write down one key takeaway.

Journal Prompt

What does it mean for you to abide in God’s love? How does obedience help you remain close to Him? Write about one way you can intentionally stay connected to His love today.

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for inviting me to abide in Your love. Help me to remain close to You, not just in feeling but in action. Teach me to trust that obedience is not a burden, but a pathway to deeper intimacy with You. May my life reflect a heart that chooses to stay in Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Invitation to Live with Truth, Goodness, and Beauty

Abiding in God’s love is not passive—it is an active choice to walk in obedience and trust. Stay connected to Him today, allowing His love to shape the way you live.
