Holding All Things in Light of Christ
Simplicity begins with Jesus Christ, in whom all things hold together and through whom our lives are rightly ordered. He does not call us to manage more, but to seek Him first. In Matthew 6:33 (ESV), Jesus says, “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Simplicity is the practice of taking Him at His word—releasing what competes so that He remains central.
Our lives often become crowded not simply with responsibilities, but with misplaced trust—trying to secure what Christ has already provided. Yet in Colossians 2:6–7 (ESV), we are called to “walk in him… rooted and built up in him.” Simplicity is how we return to that rootedness. It clears space for us to live from Christ rather than from pressure, distraction, or excess.
Simplicity also forms contentment. When we release what is unnecessary, we become more aware of what has already been given. Christ Himself becomes our sufficiency. What once felt essential begins to lose its weight, and what is eternal becomes more visible. In this way, simplicity is not loss—it is clarity. It is the freedom of a life centered on Christ.
Guided Practice
Today, simplify with Christ at the center.
Choose one area of your life to intentionally unclutter:
Your environment: clear a small space and remove what is unnecessary
Your schedule: release or postpone one non-essential commitment
Your attention: step away from distractions for a set period of time
As you do, notice what feels difficult to release. Bring that before Christ:
“You are enough for me. Help me to trust You here.”
Then, fill the space you’ve created with His presence—through prayer, Scripture, or quiet awareness of Him.
Reflection Prompt
What was hardest for me to release today—and what does that reveal about where I am looking for security instead of Christ?
