Fixing Our Eyes on the Worthiness of Christ
Worship begins with Jesus Christ, who is worthy not merely because of what He gives, but because of who He is. He is the Lamb who was slain, the risen King, the image of the invisible God, and the One through whom all things were made. In Revelation 5:12 (ESV), heaven cries out, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.” Worship is joining that response—giving Christ the attention, affection, and honor that belong to Him.
Worship reorients the heart. We become shaped by whatever holds our gaze most consistently. In 2 Corinthians 3:18 (ESV), Paul writes that as we behold the glory of the Lord, we are being transformed into His image. Worship is therefore not only expression; it is formation. As we behold Christ—His beauty, holiness, mercy, and faithfulness—the Spirit conforms us more fully to Him.
Because of Christ’s finished work, worship is not an attempt to earn nearness to God. We worship from acceptance, not for acceptance. Through Jesus, we have been brought near to the Father, and worship becomes the joyful response of those who belong to Him. It is love answering Love.
Guided Practice
Today, intentionally center your attention on Christ.
Begin by reading a passage that reveals who Jesus is (a Gospel passage, a Psalm, or a Christ-centered hymn in Scripture)
Listen to or sing a worship song slowly and attentively
Speak to Christ directly: praise Him for specific aspects of His character and work
Surrender your day to Him—your plans, concerns, desires, and expectations
Do not rush this time. Stay with Him long enough for worship to move beyond routine into affection.
Reflection Prompt
What did I behold about Christ today that stirred worship in me—and how did fixing my attention on Him reshape my heart?
