Quieting the Noise to Attend to Christ


Silence is the practice of intentionally setting aside noise, distraction, and constant input so that we can become more attentive to the presence of God. It is not the absence of activity for its own sake, but the creation of space where we can listen, receive, and simply be with Christ. In a world that rarely stops talking, silence teaches us how to remain.


The Lord invites His people in Psalms 46:10 (ESV), “Be still, and know that I am God.” Silence helps us obey that invitation. It reminds us that God is not found through constant striving or endless activity. Often, it is in the quiet that we become most aware of His nearness.


Silence also reveals what is happening beneath the surface of our lives. When distractions are removed, worries, desires, fears, and unfinished thoughts often emerge. Rather than avoiding them, silence gives us the opportunity to bring them honestly before Christ. He meets us there—not with condemnation, but with grace. As we practice silence, we learn that we do not need to fill every moment. God is present, even when we stop.


Guided Practice


Today, set aside 5–10 minutes for intentional silence.


  • Find a quiet place where you can be uninterrupted

  • Put away your phone and other distractions

  • Take a few slow breaths and become aware of God's presence


Begin with this prayer:


"Jesus, help me become aware of Your presence."


Then simply sit with Him.


  • When thoughts arise, acknowledge them without judgment

  • Gently return your attention to Christ

  • Resist the urge to immediately solve problems or plan ahead

  • Allow the quiet to become an act of trust


If helpful, slowly repeat:


"Be still, and know that I am God."


Remain with Christ rather than rushing to fill the space.
