Delighting in the Goodness of God
Celebration is the practice of intentionally rejoicing in God’s goodness, faithfulness, and grace. It is the discipline that teaches us to notice and enjoy what God has done. While many spiritual disciplines train us through restraint, celebration trains us through gratitude. It reminds us that the Christian life is not only marked by repentance, perseverance, and sacrifice, but also by joy.
Throughout Scripture, God's people are called to remember His works and respond with praise. In Psalms 145:7 (ESV), the psalmist declares, “They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.” Celebration is one way we participate in that testimony. We pause to remember that God has been faithful, that Christ is risen, and that His promises remain sure.
Celebration forms gratitude because it retrains our attention. Left to ourselves, we often focus on what is lacking, uncertain, or unfinished. Celebration invites us to remember what is true. In Christ, we have received mercy, forgiveness, adoption, and a living hope. Even in difficult seasons, His goodness remains. Joy becomes an act of faith that looks beyond circumstances to the character of God.
Guided Practice
Today, intentionally celebrate the goodness of God.
Spend time praising Christ through worship, singing, or prayer
Reflect on the past week and write down three specific ways you have seen God's faithfulness
Share a word of encouragement or gratitude with someone who has impacted your life
Enjoy one of God's gifts—a meal, fellowship, laughter, rest, beauty, or creativity—and receive it with thanksgiving
End your day by thanking God not only for His blessings, but for His presence
Pray:
"Jesus, thank You for Your faithfulness. Open my eyes to see Your goodness and fill my heart with joy in who You are."
