✨ Today’s Discipline | Prayer

Abiding with Christ Through Conversation and Communion

Prayer is the practice of drawing near to God through Jesus Christ and remaining in His presence. Because of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, we do not approach God as strangers seeking an audience, but as beloved children welcomed into the Father’s presence. In Ephesians 2:18 (ESV), Paul writes, “For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.” Prayer is the privilege of that access.

Jesus did not treat prayer as a religious obligation but as a relationship. Throughout the Gospels, He repeatedly withdrew to be with the Father, demonstrating that communion with God is the source from which faithful living flows. Prayer is not merely presenting requests; it is learning to abide with Christ. It is where trust is deepened, burdens are surrendered, and hearts are formed in the presence of God.

Prayer also reminds us that we are dependent creatures. We are not called to carry life alone. In prayer, we bring our joys, fears, hopes, disappointments, and questions before the One who knows us completely and loves us perfectly. As we pray, the Spirit gently aligns our hearts with the will of God and teaches us to trust His wisdom, timing, and care.

Guided Practice

Today, set aside intentional time to pray with Christ rather than simply praying through a list.

  • Begin by sitting quietly and acknowledging God’s presence

  • Thank Him for specific evidences of His grace in your life

  • Share honestly about what is weighing on your heart

  • Pray for others, bringing their needs before the Lord

  • End by surrendering your day, plans, and concerns into His hands

After you finish speaking, remain in silence for a minute or two. Let prayer become a conversation rather than a monologue.

Throughout the day, return to God with simple prayers such as:

  • “Jesus, help me trust You.”

  • “Thank You for being with me.”

  • “Give me wisdom for this moment.”
