Delighting in the Goodness and Faithfulness of God
Celebration is the practice of joy that flows from remembering who God is and what He has done. It is not dependent on circumstances, but anchored in His unchanging character. In Psalms 118:24 (ESV), we are invited, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Celebration trains our hearts to receive each day as a gift, not a burden.
Throughout Scripture, celebration is a response to God’s faithfulness. It is seen in songs, feasts, and gatherings that mark His provision and presence. In Philippians 4:4 (ESV), Paul exhorts believers, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.” This joy is not shallow or fleeting—it is rooted in the reality that God remains good, even when life feels uncertain or incomplete.
In Christ, celebration becomes both remembrance and anticipation. We rejoice because of what He has accomplished through His life, death, and resurrection, and we look forward to the fullness of joy that is to come. Celebration forms us by shifting our focus from what is lacking to what is true, from what is temporary to what is eternal. It teaches us to delight in God—and in doing so, to find our hearts renewed.
Guided Practice
Today, intentionally practice joy as an act of worship.
Set aside time to celebrate God’s goodness in a way that engages your whole self.
Begin with praise: play worship music and sing or listen attentively
Reflect on the past week and write down specific ways you have seen God’s faithfulness
Express joy outwardly: encourage someone, share gratitude, or celebrate what God is doing in another person’s life
Receive something good as a gift—an unhurried meal, time outside, meaningful conversation—and thank God for it
Let your celebration be unhurried and sincere. Joy deepens when it is noticed and named.
Reflection Prompt
Where have I seen God’s goodness this week—and how can I intentionally rejoice in it today?
