✨ Today’s Discipline | Prayer

Communing with God in Relationship and Dependence

Prayer is the practice of ongoing communion with God—speaking to Him, listening for Him, and abiding in His presence. It is not a performance or formula, but a relationship marked by trust, honesty, and dependence. In Philippians 4:6 (ESV), we are invited, “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Prayer becomes the place where every part of our lives is brought before Him.

Throughout Scripture, prayer reflects both intimacy and reliance. It is how we align our hearts with God’s will and participate in what He is doing. Jesus models this rhythm of prayer, often withdrawing to be alone with the Father, as seen in Luke 5:16 (ESV). Prayer is not reserved for moments of need—it is the steady posture of a life lived with God.

Prayer also forms us by shaping our desires. As we consistently come before God, our hearts are gently reoriented. We begin to desire what He desires, trust what He is doing, and rest in His presence. In this way, prayer is both expression and transformation—it is how we speak with God and how He shapes us over time.

Guided Practice

Today, approach prayer as a conversation with God.

Set aside a few intentional minutes to pray, using a simple structure if helpful:

  • Adoration: Begin by acknowledging who God is—His goodness, faithfulness, and character

  • Confession: Honestly bring anything that needs to be surrendered or realigned

  • Thanksgiving: Name specific things you are grateful for

  • Supplication: Present your needs, desires, and requests to God

After speaking, spend a moment in stillness. Allow space to listen, reflect, and be present with Him.

You can return to prayer throughout the day—short, honest moments of turning your attention back to God.
