Scripture Focus — John 1:14 (ESV)
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Devotional Reflection
John’s declaration is simple and astonishing: the Word became flesh. God did not remain distant or theoretical. He entered human life fully, taking on weakness, limitation, and vulnerability. The eternal Word through whom all things were made stepped into time, choosing closeness over distance and presence over power displayed from afar. Advent love is revealed here—not in abstraction, but in incarnation.
When John says that Jesus “dwelt among us,” he is describing God choosing to live in the midst of ordinary human experience. Christ knew hunger, fatigue, grief, joy, and relationship. He walked dusty roads, shared meals, and encountered human sorrow firsthand. God’s love is not detached or uninformed; it is intimate and experiential. He does not merely sympathize with our lives—He has entered them.
This truth reshapes how we understand love. God’s love is not distant approval but committed presence. He draws near not to observe us, but to redeem us. Advent reminds us that love is shown through nearness, faithfulness, and willingness to remain. The Word becoming flesh tells us that God’s glory is revealed not through escape from humanity, but through entering it fully and lovingly.
