Scripture Focus:
Romans 6:4 (ESV)
“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead… we too might walk in newness of life.”
The Risen Life Begins
The resurrection does not return us to what was.
It brings us into what is new.
After the empty tomb, there is a quiet question that lingers: Now what? The disciples are still processing, still unsure, still learning what it means that Jesus is alive. The resurrection is real, but they have not yet learned how to live in light of it.
Paul gives language for this moment. He writes that just as Christ was raised, we too might walk in newness of life. Not later. Not eventually. Now. The resurrection is not only something to believe in — it is something to live from.
This means the old patterns no longer define you. The old identity no longer holds you. What has been buried with Christ is not meant to be carried forward. Yet stepping into new life often feels unfamiliar. It requires learning to live differently — not by striving, but by responding to what has already been done.
Colossians 3:1–2 says, “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above…” The shift is not just external. It is internal. A new direction. A new orientation. A new center.
Resurrection life is practiced.
It looks like choosing what is true when the old feels easier.
It looks like remembering who you are when you’re tempted to forget.
It looks like walking — one step at a time — in what Christ has already secured.
You are not trying to become new.
You are learning to live from it.
Practice
Identify one “old pattern” you are tempted to return to — a thought, habit, or way of responding.
Then ask:
“What would new life look like here?”
Pray:
“Jesus, teach me to walk in what You’ve already made true.”
Reflection Question
Where is God inviting me to live differently because of the resurrection?
