Peace That Finds You
The disciples are not bold after the resurrection. They are hiding. The doors are locked, fear fills the room, and everything that has happened is still settling. They do not yet know what comes next. And into that space — not after they’ve gathered themselves, not after they’ve found clarity — Jesus comes. He does not knock. He stands among them.
His first words are not correction, not instruction, not urgency. They are peace. “Peace be with you.”
This is the nature of resurrection peace. It is not something the disciples create or achieve. It is something that finds them in the middle of fear. Jesus does not wait for them to be steady before He speaks peace. He brings peace into their instability. This reframes how we understand peace altogether.
We often assume peace comes after things settle — after we figure everything out or after circumstances change. But the resurrection shows us something different. Peace is not the result of control; it is the presence of Christ. Ephesians 2:14 reminds us, “He himself is our peace.” Not a concept. Not a feeling. A person who enters the room.
The doors may still be locked. The questions may still be unanswered. But Jesus is present. And where He is, peace is.
Practice
Notice where you feel unsettled, anxious, or unsure today. Instead of trying to resolve it, pause and pray:“Jesus, meet me here with Your peace.”
Reflection Question
Where do I need to stop striving for peace and allow Jesus to bring it to me?
