Scripture Focus
“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.” – Psalm 37:7 (NIV)
Devotional Reflection
Waiting often feels like one of life’s greatest challenges. Our fast-paced culture equates waiting with wasting time, but God invites us to see it differently. Psalm 37:7 reminds us to be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him. This is not a passive or empty waiting—it is an act of faith, rooted in trust that God is at work even when we cannot see it.
The psalmist contrasts this stillness with fretting over others’ apparent success. How often do we compare ourselves to others, feeling left behind or forgotten? Yet God gently reminds us that His timing is perfect, and His plans for us are never delayed by someone else’s journey. In the waiting, He is shaping our character, strengthening our faith, and teaching us to rest in His sovereignty.
Waiting on God is not about enduring with resignation; it’s about abiding in His presence with hope and expectation. It’s about trusting that the same God who has been faithful in the past will continue to be faithful in the future. Today, embrace the grace of waiting and find rest in the knowledge that He is always at work.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Breath Prayer:
(Inhale) “I wait patiently before You, Lord…”
(Exhale) “…and trust in Your perfect timing.”
How to Practice a Breath Prayer:
Find a quiet space where you can sit comfortably and take a few deep breaths to settle your mind. As you inhale, silently pray the first part of the phrase (e.g., “I wait patiently before You, Lord…”), and as you exhale, pray the second part (e.g., “…and trust in Your perfect timing.”). Repeat the prayer slowly for 2–5 minutes, letting the rhythm of your breathing guide your focus. This simple practice helps center your heart on God’s presence and truth.
Practical Application
Take time today to reflect on an area of your life where you feel you are in a season of waiting.
• Write down what makes waiting challenging for you.
• Pray over this situation, asking God for peace and clarity as you trust in His timing.
Journal Prompt
What does waiting patiently before the Lord look like in your current season? Write about a time when waiting on God led to a deeper understanding of His faithfulness.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that waiting is not wasted when I trust in You. Help me to be still before You, resting in the assurance of Your perfect timing. Teach me to find peace in Your presence and to trust that You are working all things for good. Strengthen my faith as I wait, and help me to see Your hand at work in this season. Amen.
