The Dry Bones Come to Life – God’s Power to Restore

Scripture Focus

"Then He said to me, ‘Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live.’"— Ezekiel 37:4-5

"I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly."— John 10:10

Devotional Reflection

Ezekiel stood in a valley filled with dry, lifeless bones—a picture of complete hopelessness. It was a place where death had claimed the final word, where restoration seemed impossible. And yet, God spoke.

"Can these bones live?" the Lord asked Ezekiel. From a human perspective, the answer was obvious—no. But Ezekiel’s response was one of trust: "O Lord God, You know."

Then, at God's command, breath entered the bones, and they came to life. What was once dead was restored. What was lost was renewed.

How often do we look at our own lives and see nothing but dry bones? Broken dreams, lost faith, seasons of spiritual drought—we assume they are beyond repair. But God is still in the business of breathing life into dead places.

If you feel weary, distant, or lifeless in your faith, hear the word of the Lord today: He is not finished with you. No situation is too far gone, no heart too dry, no hope too lost. The breath of God still restores. Speak His truth over your weary places, and watch as He brings life where there once was none.

Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust

Breath Prayer: (Inhale) Lord, breathe life into my weary soul. (Exhale) I trust You to restore and renew.

How to Practice a Breath Prayer:

Find a quiet moment. As you breathe in, imagine the life-giving breath of God filling you. As you breathe out, release doubt and surrender to His restoring work.

Practical Application

  • Identify Your Dry Bones. Where in your life do you feel distant from God, weary, or hopeless? Acknowledge it before Him.

  • Speak Life. Read Ezekiel 37:1-14 out loud, replacing "these bones" with the specific areas of your life where you need renewal.

  • Take a Step Toward Restoration. Whether through prayer, worship, or stepping back into community, choose to move toward the life God is offering.

Journal Prompt

Where do you feel spiritually dry or lifeless? How can you invite God to breathe new life into that area today?

Closing Prayer

Father, I come before You feeling weary, but I know that You are the God who restores. Breathe life into the dry places of my heart. Bring renewal where there has been discouragement, and let Your Spirit revive me again. I trust that nothing is beyond Your power to restore. Amen.

Invitation to Live with Truth, Goodness, and Beauty

No matter how dry your soul feels, God’s breath can bring you back to life. His Spirit revives, restores, and renews. Speak His truth over your life today and watch Him work.
