Scripture Focus
"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and
streams in the wasteland."
– Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)
Devotional Reflection
Life’s wilderness seasons can feel desolate—times of uncertainty, struggle, or waiting when the path forward seems unclear. Yet it is often in these dry places that God’s renewal breaks through most powerfully. Isaiah 43:18-19 reminds us that God is not bound by the limitations of our circumstances or our past. He is always doing something new, bringing life where it seems impossible.
This passage calls us to stop dwelling on “the former things,” the moments of regret, failure, or even past successes that can hinder us from stepping into the new thing God is doing. His promise is not about recreating what was but about bringing forth something fresh and beautiful. He makes a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland—a picture of His abundant provision and guidance in the midst of life’s challenges.
As you look ahead, remember that God is actively at work, even when you cannot yet perceive it. He is shaping your path and renewing your spirit, inviting you to trust Him to do what only He can. In His hands, the wilderness becomes a place of transformation and hope.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Breath Prayer: (Inhale) “You are making a way…”(Exhale) “…bringing streams to my wilderness.”
How to Practice a Breath Prayer: Find a quiet space where you can sit comfortably and take a few deep breaths to settle your mind. As you inhale, silently pray the first part of the phrase (e.g., “You are making a way…”), and as you exhale, pray the second part (e.g., “…bringing streams to my wilderness.”). Repeat the prayer slowly for 2–5 minutes, letting the rhythm of your breathing guide your focus. This simple practice helps center your heart on God’s presence and truth.
Practical Application
Take time to reflect on where you need God’s renewal in your life.
What "former things" do you need to release to embrace the new work God is doing?
How can you trust Him to make a way in the areas where you feel stuck or uncertain?
Spend a few moments in prayer, asking God to show you the “streams” He is providing in your wilderness. Write down one step of faith you can take today to walk in the renewal He offers.
Journal Prompt:
Think about a “wilderness” in your life. What new thing do you sense God is doing in you, and how can you embrace His renewal?
Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for the promise of renewal and for doing new things in my life. Help me to release the past and embrace the fresh work You are doing. Open my eyes to see the ways You are guiding me and providing streams in the wilderness. Strengthen my faith to trust You in every season. Amen.
