Lent Day 28 | Even Now

Scripture Focus:

John 11:21–22 (ESV)

“Martha said to Jesus, ‘Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.’”

Even Now

As Lent moves closer to Easter, hope begins to rise — not because circumstances have changed, but because Christ is near. In John 11, Martha meets Jesus in the middle of grief and disappointment. She names what feels lost: “If you had been here…” Yet in the same breath, she speaks a quiet, remarkable trust: “But even now…”

These two realities often live side by side in the life of faith. We carry what has not gone the way we hoped, and at the same time, we are invited to believe that God is still at work. “Even now” becomes a declaration of trust in the middle of what feels unresolved.

Jesus responds not first with explanation, but with presence. He draws near to Martha and reveals that He Himself is the resurrection and the life. Before anything changes externally, He reorients her hope around who He is. This is the shift Lent begins to make in us — from hoping in outcomes to hoping in Christ.

Romans 8:24 reminds us, “Now hope that is seen is not hope.” True hope often takes root before we see evidence of it. It grows in the soil of trust, watered by the belief that God is still moving, still present, still able.

“Even now” does not ignore pain.

It anchors hope within it.

As we move toward the cross and the empty tomb, we remember that God’s timing does not cancel His faithfulness. What feels delayed is not beyond His reach.

Practice

Think of one situation that feels unresolved or disappointing.

Bring it before God and pray:

“Lord, even now, I trust You.”

Let that phrase become a quiet anchor throughout your day.

Reflection Question

Where is God inviting me to believe “even now” instead of giving in to discouragement?
