Resting in His Will
Surrender is not complete until it leads us into rest. After a week of considering obedience, trust, and costly love, Scripture invites us into stillness — not the stillness of inactivity, but the stillness of confidence. Psalm 37:7 calls us to “be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him,” reminding us that surrender is not only about yielding our will but also about releasing our timelines, our expectations, and our need to see immediate outcomes.
Stillness is an act of trust. It asks us to believe that God is working even when we cannot see the progress. It invites us to lay down the pressure to orchestrate our own lives and instead let God be the One who moves, reveals, and provides. Rest becomes a declaration of faith: God is faithful, and His will is good.
Jesus models this posture in Matthew 11:28 when He says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” His rest is not an escape from reality but a refuge within it. The One who calls us to surrender also calls us to be held. He does not ask us to carry burdens He has already offered to lift.
Sabbath during Lent becomes a reminder that surrender does not exhaust us — it steadies us. It anchors us in the truth that God’s will is not something to fear but a place to rest. His plans are not fragile, and neither are you when you are in His care.
Practice
Set aside a few quiet minutes today.
Breathe deeply and pray:
“Lord, I rest in Your will.”
Allow yourself to experience the peace that comes from letting Him hold what you’ve been trying to control.
Reflection Question
Where is God inviting me to rest instead of resolve?
