"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." – John 15:13
Devotional Reflection
Love finds its highest expression in sacrifice. In John 15:13, Jesus defines the greatest form of love—not through words or emotions, but through action: laying down one’s life for another. This is the love Christ displayed on the cross, giving Himself fully so that we might have life. His sacrifice was not driven by obligation but by a love so deep that He chose to endure suffering for our sake.
The beauty of this verse is that it doesn’t just point to what Christ did—it invites us to follow His example. While few of us will be called to physically lay down our lives, we are called to live sacrificially every day. Sacrificial love is seen when we set aside our own comfort to care for another, when we forgive freely, and when we choose kindness even when it costs us something.
Christ’s love changes how we love. It moves us from self-centeredness to selflessness, from convenience to commitment. Today, reflect on His ultimate sacrifice and ask: How can I embody this kind of love in my relationships, my community, and my daily life?
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Breath Prayer: (Inhale) Teach me to love…(Exhale) As You have loved me.
How to Practice a Breath Prayer: Find a quiet space where you can sit comfortably and take a few deep breaths to settle your heart. As you inhale, pray, “Teach me to love…” and as you exhale, “As You have loved me.” Repeat this for 2–5 minutes, allowing the truth of Christ’s sacrificial love to fill your heart.
Practical Application
Embrace Sacrificial Love: Identify one way you can show love today that costs you something—your time, comfort, or resources.
Celebrate Christ’s Sacrifice: Take a moment to thank Jesus for His ultimate act of love on the cross. Consider reading John 15:9-17 for further reflection.
Lay Down Self-Interest: The next time you are faced with a choice—between serving yourself or another—choose the path of love, even if it requires sacrifice.
