Scripture Focus
“David remained in the strongholds in the wilderness, in the hill country of the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God did not give him into his hand. David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh. And Jonathan, Saul’s son, rose and went to David at Horesh, and strengthened his hand in God.” – 1 Samuel 23:14–16 (ESV)
Devotional Reflection
Day after day, Saul hunted David. The threat was relentless. Yet Scripture makes it clear: “God did not give him into his hand.” Even in the wilderness, God’s protective hand was steady.
What makes this moment even more tender is Jonathan’s arrival. At the very time David was worn down by fear and isolation, God sent a friend to “strengthen his hand in God.” Protection wasn’t only about keeping Saul’s spear away—it was also about giving David courage to keep trusting.
God knows exactly what you’re up against. He sees the threats pressing in and the weariness they bring. His faithfulness doesn’t always remove the wilderness, but He sustains you in it—through His presence and often through the encouragement of others who remind you of His goodness.

Journal Prompt
Where do I feel most pursued or pressed down right now? How has God been showing His protection and care in that place?
Closing Prayer
Lord, You see the weight of what I face. Thank You that no enemy and no hardship can overcome Your faithful hand. Strengthen me through Your Spirit and through the encouragement of others, that I may keep trusting You. Amen.
