Scripture Focus:
Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)
“But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
Trusting God When Nothing Moves
Lent often slows us down. It places us in a posture of waiting — waiting for clarity, waiting for growth, waiting for God to move in ways we long to see. In these moments, it can feel as though nothing is happening. Yet Scripture reminds us that waiting on the Lord is not wasted time; it is a place where strength is quietly renewed.
Isaiah promises that those who wait for the Lord will find new strength. This strength does not come from forcing progress or controlling outcomes. It comes from remaining near to God while His purposes unfold. Waiting becomes an act of trust, a way of acknowledging that God’s timing is wiser than our own.
Psalm 27:14 gives the same encouragement: “Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!” Waiting strengthens the heart because it shifts our confidence away from visible results and toward the character of God. The one who waits is not passive; the one who waits is anchored.
During Lent, waiting teaches us patience with God’s work in us. Just as Christ walked steadily toward the cross according to the Father’s timing, we learn to walk forward without rushing ahead of Him. The stillness of waiting becomes a space where trust grows deeper.
What feels like nothing moving may actually be the quiet renewal of your soul.
Practice
Bring before God one situation where you wish things would change more quickly.
Pray slowly:
“Lord, help me trust You while I wait.”
Take a deep breath and allow yourself to rest in His timing.
Reflection Question
Where is God inviting me to trust His timing instead of forcing my own?
