Scripture Focus — Psalm 27:1 (ESV)
“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
Devotional Reflection
The final day of the year invites both reflection and anticipation. We look back on what has been carried, learned, endured, and released. We look ahead to what remains unknown. And into this in-between space, Scripture speaks with clarity and assurance: “The LORD is my light.” God does not promise us a fully illuminated path, but He promises Himself as the Light who leads us forward.
Light, in Scripture, is not merely about visibility—it is about guidance, protection, and confidence. When David declares that the Lord is his light and salvation, he is not denying the presence of fear or uncertainty. He is confessing that fear does not rule him. God’s presence becomes the stronghold that steadies him, the assurance that allows him to move forward without being mastered by what he cannot yet see.
As this year comes to a close, Advent reminds us that the Light who entered the world in Christ continues to go before us. We do not step into the future alone or unguarded. The same God who has been faithful in the past will remain faithful in the days ahead. Ending the year with trust is an act of worship—a declaration that God’s light is sufficient for every next step, even when the full road remains hidden.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Breath Prayer
Inhale: You are my light.
Exhale: I will not fear.
How to Practice a Breath Prayer
As the year turns, pause for a few quiet breaths. Let this prayer anchor your heart in God’s presence rather than in uncertainty about what lies ahead.
Practical Application
Take a moment tonight to release the year into God’s care. Name one fear you are tempted to carry into the new year, and consciously entrust it to the Lord as an act of trust.
Journal Prompt
What does it look like for you to let God’s light lead you into the new year? Where might He be inviting you to walk forward with greater trust and courage?
Closing Prayer
Lord, You are my light and my salvation. As this year comes to an end, I place my past, present, and future in Your hands. Lead me forward with Your light, steady my heart with Your presence, and teach me to walk without fear as I trust You in the days ahead. Amen.
Invitation to train for godliness, run with aim, and finish the race.
Step into the new year with confidence. The Light who has led you this far will continue to guide every step as you train for godliness and run the race set before you.
