Scripture Focus
“Jonathan said to the young man who carried his armor, ‘Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that the Lord will work for us, for nothing can hinder the Lord from saving by many or by few.’” – 1 Samuel 14:6 (ESV)
Devotional Reflection
Israel’s army was paralyzed with fear before the Philistines, but Jonathan believed God could act in power. Notice his words: “It may be that the Lord will work for us.” Jonathan didn’t presume on God’s plan, but he trusted God’s character. He stepped forward with faith, knowing God was not limited by numbers, strength, or circumstance.
Trust often lives in this space—between certainty and surrender. We don’t always know how God will act, but we can be sure of who He is: faithful, powerful, and good. Jonathan’s “perhaps” wasn’t doubt; it was confidence that God’s ability was never in question. The outcome rested in God’s hands, and Jonathan chose to walk forward in trust.
Our lives are filled with moments like this. We can stay frozen by fear, or we can move ahead with faithful courage, trusting that God is able to do far more than we can see.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
God is not limited by my weakness; His power is more than enough.
Breath Prayer:
Inhale: “You are able…”
Exhale: “…I will trust Your way.”
Practical Application
Think of a situation where fear or uncertainty has kept you from moving forward. Ask God for Jonathan’s kind of trust—the courage to act faithfully, even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed.
Journal Prompt
Where am I hesitating to act because I don’t know how things will turn out? How might trusting God’s character free me to move forward?
Closing Prayer
Lord, You are not hindered by numbers, resources, or circumstances. Give me the faith to trust Your power and the courage to take the next step, even when I cannot see the outcome. Amen.
Invitation to Train for Godliness, Run with Aim, and Finish the Race
Faith grows in the “perhaps.” Step forward with trust, train your heart in courage, and run with aim knowing God is faithful from beginning to end.
