Finding Joy in Christ
Celebration is the practice of intentionally rejoicing in God because of who He is and what He has done. It is more than a passing emotion—it is a posture of grateful delight rooted in the gospel. While many spiritual disciplines teach us to slow down, deny ourselves, or examine our hearts, celebration teaches us to lift our eyes and enjoy the goodness of God. It reminds us that the Christian life is not only marked by repentance and perseverance, but also by joy.
Jesus told His disciples, “These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full” in John 15:11 (ESV). The joy Jesus offers is not dependent on favorable circumstances but on abiding in Him. Because He has overcome sin and death, reconciled us to the Father, and secured our eternal hope, we have reason to rejoice in every season. Our joy is not found in the gifts God gives, but in the God who gives Himself to us.
Celebration forms gratitude by training us to remember God's faithfulness. We become more attentive to His grace in ordinary moments and more confident in His promises for the future. As we intentionally rejoice, our hearts are drawn away from complaint and comparison and toward worship. Celebration becomes a witness to the world that our hope is anchored in Christ, whose steadfast love never fails.
Guided Practice
Today, intentionally celebrate the goodness of God.
Worship with your local church, if you are able.
Thank God for specific ways He has been faithful this week.
Share a testimony or word of encouragement with someone else.
Enjoy one of God's good gifts—a meal, time with loved ones, music, laughter, or creation—and receive it with gratitude.
End the day by praising Christ for the hope of the gospel and the joy of belonging to Him.
As you celebrate, let this simple prayer remain in your heart:
"Jesus, You are my greatest joy. Thank You for Your faithfulness and for the life I have in You."
Pray:
"Father, thank You for the joy that is mine in Christ. Open my eyes to see Your goodness, fill my heart with gratitude, and teach me to delight in Your presence above every other gift. May my life reflect the joy of the gospel and point others to the beauty of Jesus."
Reflection Prompt
Looking back over this week, what has filled my heart with the greatest gratitude for Christ, and how can I carry that joy into the week ahead?
