Rejoicing in Christ and His Faithfulness
Celebration is the practice of intentionally delighting in God because of who He is and what He has done. While Sabbath teaches us to rest in Christ, celebration teaches us to rejoice in Him. Christian joy is not rooted in changing circumstances, but in the unchanging reality of the gospel. In Psalms 103:2 (ESV), David exhorts his soul, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” Celebration helps us remember.
Throughout Scripture, God’s people marked His faithfulness with songs, feasts, testimonies, and praise. They celebrated not because life was easy, but because God was good. In Christ, we have even greater reason to rejoice. Through His life, death, and resurrection, we have been reconciled to God, adopted into His family, and given a living hope that cannot be taken away. Celebration trains our hearts to live in light of these realities.
This discipline forms gratitude and hope. It teaches us to notice grace, acknowledge God’s provision, and delight in His presence. Celebration resists cynicism, forgetfulness, and self-sufficiency by continually returning our attention to the goodness of God. As we rejoice in Christ, our hearts become more aware of His faithfulness and more eager to trust Him with what lies ahead.
Guided Practice
Today, intentionally celebrate God’s goodness.
Spend time praising God through worship, singing, or prayer
Reflect on the past week and write down three specific ways you have seen God’s faithfulness
Share a testimony, encouragement, or expression of gratitude with someone else
Enjoy a good gift from God—a meal, time with loved ones, beauty in creation, laughter, or rest—and consciously thank Him for it
End the day by offering praise for who God is, not just for what He has given
Pray:
“Jesus, thank You for Your faithfulness. Open my eyes to see Your goodness and teach my heart to rejoice in You.”
Reflection Prompt
Where have I seen the goodness of God this week—and how does remembering His faithfulness strengthen my trust in Christ today?
