"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." – John 13:34-35
Devotional Reflection
Love is the defining mark of a follower of Christ. In John 13:34-35, Jesus gives His disciples a new command—to love one another as He has loved them. This love is more than kindness or sentiment; it is selfless, sacrificial, and deeply personal. It is the love that washes feet and bears burdens. It is the love that lays down its life for a friend.
Jesus did not merely teach love—He embodied it. His life was a living testimony of compassion, grace, and humility. And now, He calls us to follow His example. When we love like Christ, we become a witness to the world. Our love becomes the clearest evidence of who we follow.
But this love is not always easy. It calls us to forgive when we are wronged, to serve when it is inconvenient, and to extend grace when it feels undeserved. Yet, it is in these moments that the world sees something different—they see Him.
Today, let your love be more than words. Let it be action, sacrifice, and a reflection of the One who first loved you.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Breath Prayer: (Inhale) As You have loved me…(Exhale) I will love others.
How to Practice a Breath Prayer: Find a quiet space where you can sit comfortably and take a few deep breaths to settle your heart. As you inhale, pray, “As You have loved me…” and as you exhale, “I will love others.” Repeat this for 2–5 minutes, allowing the love of Christ to fill your heart and guide your actions.
Practical Application
Follow Christ’s Example: Identify one way you can demonstrate Christlike love today—through service, forgiveness, or encouragement.
Be Known by Love: In your conversations, let grace and compassion be your guide. Choose to respond with love, even in difficult situations.
Reflect and Act: Think of someone who needs to experience the love of Christ through you. Reach out to them with kindness or support.
Journal Prompt
How has Christ’s love shaped the way you love others? What is one specific way you can love someone today that reflects His example?
Closing Prayer
Father, You have shown me perfect love through Jesus. Help me to love others as You have loved me—selflessly, patiently, and with grace. Let my life be a reflection of Your love, so that others may see You in me. Teach me to be known not just by my words, but by my love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Invitation to Live with Truth, Goodness, and Beauty
The love of Christ is more than a lesson—it is a lifestyle. Let His example guide you, and let your life be marked by the love that bears His name.
