Scripture Focus
“I will run in the way of your commandments when you enlarge my heart.”
— Psalm 119:32, ESV
Devotional Reflection
Perseverance begins with desire. The psalmist doesn’t ask for stronger legs or clearer directions—he asks for an enlarged heart. To endure in obedience is not merely to push through difficulty, but to let God shape our affections until His ways become our delight.
We do not run out of duty alone; we run because love compels us. When our hearts expand under the influence of grace, God’s commands no longer feel like barriers—they become the very path where freedom is found.
An enlarged heart can endure much because it beats with divine rhythm. It is soft toward correction, quick to obey, and steady in hope. As we persevere, God widens our capacity to love Him, and in that widening, we find strength to keep running.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Inhale: God’s Word enlarges my heart.
Exhale: I will run in His ways.
Breath Prayer
“Lord, enlarge my heart to love Your ways.”
How to Practice a Breath Prayer:
As you breathe in, whisper: “Lord, enlarge my heart…”
As you breathe out, finish: “…to love Your ways.”
Linger there until you sense His peace filling every breath.
Practical Application
Before reading Scripture today, pause and pray, “Enlarge my heart.” Invite the Spirit to not only inform your mind but to transform your affections. Let obedience flow from love, not obligation.
Journal Prompt
Where in my walk with God do I need a heart expanded by love rather than constrained by fear or obligation?
Closing Prayer
Father, teach me to run in the path of Your Word with joy. Stretch my heart until it beats in rhythm with Yours. May Your commands become my freedom, and Your ways my delight. Amen.
Invitation to Train for Godliness, Run with Aim, and Finish the Race
Perseverance grows as our hearts align with God’s Word. Train by letting His truth enlarge your love, run with delight in His ways, and finish knowing that obedience born of affection always endures.
