Scripture Focus
“Now the word of the Lord came to Solomon, ‘Concerning this house that you are building, if you will walk in my statutes and obey my rules and keep all my commandments and walk in them, then I will establish my word with you, which I spoke to David your father. And I will dwell among the children of Israel and will not forsake my people Israel.’”
—1 Kings 6:11–13 (ESV)
Devotional Reflection
God reminds Solomon that His presence is not secured by stone walls or golden furnishings but by covenant faithfulness. The temple would be a visible sign of God’s dwelling, but His promise rested on obedience.
For us, maturity in Christ also flows from this truth: God’s Spirit dwells not in temples made by human hands, but in us through Christ (1 Corinthians 3:16). Holiness is not about the beauty of what we build but the posture of our hearts. As we walk in obedience, we experience the nearness of God who delights to dwell with His people.
To grow mature in Christ is to remember that God’s presence is not something we earn but something we guard by walking faithfully in His ways. Obedience does not build His dwelling; it clears space for us to enjoy it.
