"The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light."— Matthew 6:22 (ESV)
Devotional Reflection
What you look at is never just visual—it’s deeply formational.
Jesus doesn’t say the eye is a lens. He says it’s a lamp—a source that determines whether your inner life is flooded with light or dimmed by darkness. What you dwell on visually has a way of seeping into your mind and shaping your soul.
In a digital age where images are constant and curated, our eyes are rarely still. But stillness is not the same as blindness—it’s attentiveness. Detoxing the mind means noticing what we’re taking in, asking what it’s producing in us, and turning our gaze toward what is holy, healing, and true.
If your thoughts are dark, anxious, or restless, it may be time to consider what your eyes have been fixed on. Because what fills your eyes fills your whole being.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Look to what gives life. Let your gaze be set on what is full of light.
Breath Prayer
Inhale: Fix my eyes on what is good.Exhale: Fill my soul with Your light.
How to Practice a Breath Prayer
Whenever your eyes start to wander today—whether through scrolling, comparison, or distraction—pause to recenter. Breathe in deeply, and return to this simple prayer. Invite God to redirect your gaze.
Practical Application
Do a visual reset today. Choose to limit or fast from a source of visual input (e.g., social media, shows, videos) that has been clouding your peace or inflaming comparison. Replace that time with something restorative: reading Scripture, being in nature, or journaling in quiet.
Journal Prompt
What have I been looking at that is shaping how I feel or think? What would it look like to choose what is full of light instead?
Closing Prayer
Lord, my eyes so often land on what doesn’t satisfy. Turn my gaze toward what is true and life-giving. Let Your light enter every shadowed place within me. Train my eyes to see what is good, lovely, and worthy of praise. Fill my soul with light as I look to You. Amen.
Invitation to Live with Truth, Goodness, and Beauty
Your eyes shape your inner world. Let them rest on things that stir worship, restore peace, and reflect the beauty of Christ.

I’ve never considered doing a breath prayer before, and I love this idea! It’s a great way to recenter myself during the day long after I’ve completed my morning Bible time. Also, my Bible study was talking about TV shows lately being a conviction from the Holy Spirit about what are we putting into our body. This was a lovely reminder to put visuals that are beautiful in our minds this week instead! Thanks, Affinity for Beauty lady!
