Giving Christ His Rightful Place

Worship is the practice of responding to the worthiness of Jesus Christ with our whole lives. It begins not with our emotions or our efforts, but with the reality of who He is. Christ is the risen King, the image of the invisible God, and the One through whom all things were created and in whom all things hold together. Worship is simply giving Him the honor that already belongs to Him.

In Colossians 1:15–18 (ESV), Paul reminds us that Christ is "before all things, and in him all things hold together." Worship reorders our lives by putting Jesus back at the center. As we behold His greatness, our worries become smaller, our ambitions are purified, and our hearts are drawn toward what is eternal. We become like what we continually behold, and so worship is one of God's primary means of forming us into the likeness of His Son.

Because Christ has reconciled us to the Father, worship is no longer an attempt to gain God's acceptance. It is the joyful response of those who have already been welcomed by grace. We come not to earn His love, but because we have received it. Every song we sing, every prayer we pray, and every act of obedience becomes an expression of gratitude for the One who first loved us.

Guided Practice

Today, intentionally give Christ your undivided attention.

• Read a passage that focuses on the person and work of Jesus.

• Spend several minutes worshiping through song or quiet praise.

• Write down three attributes of Christ that lead you to gratitude.

• Thank Him specifically for who He is before thanking Him for what He has done.

• Offer one area of your life to Him in surrender, trusting His wisdom and lordship.

Throughout the day, whenever your attention is pulled elsewhere, simply pray:

"Jesus, help me fix my eyes on You."

Let worship become more than a moment—it can become the posture of your heart.

Pray:

"Lord Jesus, You alone are worthy of my worship. Lift my eyes above my circumstances and fix my heart on Your beauty, Your goodness, and Your glory. Shape my life as I behold You, and let everything I do today be an offering of love and praise to You."
