✨ Today’s Discipline | Celebration
Enjoying the Life Christ Has Given You
Celebration is the practice of intentionally enjoying God and the good gifts He has given us. Sometimes we become so focused on becoming more faithful, overcoming weaknesses, or reaching what is next that we forget to enjoy the grace already present. Celebration slows us down long enough to say, God has been good to me, and His goodness is worth enjoying.
Jesus Himself participated in celebration. He attended weddings, shared meals, welcomed feasts, and spent time around tables with His friends. His first recorded miracle even took place at a wedding celebration (John 2:1–11). The Christian life is serious, but it is not joyless. Christ came that His people might have life in Him, and His presence gives us freedom to receive God's gifts with gratitude rather than suspicion or guilt.
Paul writes that God “richly provides us with everything to enjoy” (1 Timothy 6:17, ESV). Enjoyment becomes worship when the gift leads our hearts back to the Giver. A good meal can become thanksgiving. Laughter with friends can become gratitude. Beauty can awaken praise. Celebration teaches us to receive these moments without demanding that they last forever or asking them to satisfy what only Christ can. We enjoy the gift precisely because we know it is not our God.
And beneath every temporary reason for celebration stands an eternal one: Jesus Christ is risen. We have been reconciled to the Father, welcomed into His family, and given a hope that cannot perish. Even when life contains grief, waiting, or unanswered questions, joy remains possible because our deepest good has already been secured in Christ.
Guided Practice
Today, don't only identify something good—actually enjoy it.
Choose something that brings genuine, God-honoring delight:
Share a favorite meal with someone you love.
Put on music and sing or dance.
Spend time somewhere beautiful.
Call someone who makes you laugh.
Celebrate something good happening in another person's life.
Do something creative simply because you enjoy it.
Gather with God's people and rejoice together in Christ.
As you enjoy it, resist the urge to rush ahead or turn the moment into something productive. Be fully present.
At some point, pause and simply say:
"Father, thank You. This is a gift."
Let enjoyment lead naturally into gratitude, and gratitude into worship.
Pray:
"Father, every good gift ultimately comes from Your hand. Teach me to receive Your goodness with gratitude and enjoy it without clinging to it. Keep Christ at the center of my joy, and make me increasingly attentive to the grace already surrounding me. Thank You that because Jesus is risen, my deepest reason for celebration can never be taken away."
Reflection Prompt
What did I genuinely enjoy today, and how did receiving it as a gift lead my heart back to gratitude for Christ?
