Learning to Read Scripture Through the Lens of Christ
Study is the practice of carefully engaging Scripture so that we may understand God rightly and see Christ more clearly. Jesus is not merely part of the story of Scripture—He is the fulfillment of it. In Luke 24:44 (ESV), Jesus explains that everything written in the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms ultimately points to Him. Study trains us to read the Bible as one unified story centered on Christ.
This practice moves beyond surface familiarity into deeper understanding. In Acts 17:11 (ESV), the Bereans are commended because they examined the Scriptures carefully to discern what was true. Study forms discernment by helping us understand context, themes, and the larger redemptive movement of Scripture. It teaches us not just what a passage says, but how it fits within God’s unfolding work of redemption.
Study also deepens worship. As we trace the faithfulness of God across Scripture, we come to see more clearly the beauty of Christ—His promises, His fulfillment, His mercy, and His kingdom. Knowledge alone does not transform us, but truth received through the Spirit leads us to love, trust, and follow Christ more faithfully.
Guided Practice
Today, study a passage with the goal of understanding how it reveals Christ.
Choose a short passage from your Bible reading
Observe carefully:
What stands out?
What is repeated?
What problem, promise, or need is present?
Consider the context:
Who wrote this?
To whom?
What is happening in the larger story of Scripture?
Then ask:
How does this passage point to Christ, prepare for Him, or reveal our need for Him?
Use a trusted resource if helpful, such as a study Bible, commentary, or the Bible Reading Journey in the ForméWell app.
Reflection Prompt
What did this passage help me understand more clearly about Christ—and how does that shape the way I trust and follow Him?
