Loving Others as Christ Has Loved Us

Service is the practice of intentionally using our time, gifts, and resources to reflect the love of Christ to others. It is not about earning significance or proving our faithfulness, but about participating in the self-giving love of Jesus. As those who have been served by the Savior, we are invited to joyfully serve those around us.

On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus did something His disciples never expected—He knelt down and washed their feet. Afterward, He said in John 13:14–15 (ESV), "If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you." The King of kings demonstrated that greatness in God's kingdom is expressed through humble love. Every act of service becomes an opportunity to imitate the heart of Christ.

Service also reshapes our perspective. It turns our attention away from ourselves and toward the needs of others. Whether our acts are noticed or remain hidden, God sees them all. The goal is not recognition but faithfulness. As we quietly serve, the Holy Spirit forms within us the humility, compassion, and generosity that characterized Jesus throughout His earthly ministry.

Guided Practice

Today, intentionally look for one opportunity to serve someone.

You might:

• Encourage someone with a thoughtful text or phone call.

• Offer practical help without being asked.

• Pray intentionally for someone who is struggling.

• Complete a hidden act of kindness that no one else will know about.

• Serve your family, church, workplace, or community with joy instead of obligation.

As you serve, remember that you are ultimately serving Christ Himself. Let your actions become a quiet reflection of His love.

"Jesus, thank You for serving me through Your life, death, and resurrection. Give me a humble heart that gladly serves others. Help me love as You have loved me, seeking faithfulness instead of recognition."
