✨ Today’s Discipline | Service

Serving from the Love We Have Received

Service is the practice of expressing the love of Christ through humble acts of care for others. It does not begin with our effort but with Christ's example. Jesus came not to elevate Himself, but to give Himself. In Mark 10:45 (ESV), He says, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Every act of Christian service flows from His self-giving love.

Because we have been served so completely by Christ, we are free to serve without seeking recognition or reward. We no longer need to prove our worth or earn God's approval. Instead, we become people who gladly lay down our time, attention, and resources for the good of others. Service is not an obligation added to the Christian life—it is the natural fruit of a heart being transformed by the love of Jesus.

Service also reshapes the way we see people. It slows us down enough to notice the needs around us and teaches us to value faithfulness over visibility. Whether our acts are public or unseen, great or small, they become opportunities to reflect the heart of Christ. As we serve others, we participate in His ongoing work of love and become more like the One who first loved us.

Guided Practice

Today, ask Christ to make you attentive to someone else's need.

Begin with this prayer:

"Jesus, thank You for serving me so completely. Help me love others with the same humility and generosity You have shown me."

Then intentionally choose one act of service:

  • Encourage someone with thoughtful and specific words.

  • Help with a practical need before being asked.

  • Offer your full attention to someone who needs to be heard.

  • Give generously of your time or resources.

  • Perform an act of kindness without drawing attention to yourself.

As you serve, remember that you are responding to Christ's love, not trying to earn it.

Reflection Prompt

How did serving someone today help me reflect the love of Christ, and what did it teach me about becoming more like Him?
