✨ Today’s Discipline | Scripture Meditation
Remaining in the Words of Christ
Scripture meditation is the practice of lingering with God's Word until it begins to shape the heart. Rather than rushing through a passage, meditation invites us to slow down, listen carefully, and carry the truth with us throughout the day. It is less about reading more and more about remaining with what God has already spoken.
Jesus said in John 15:7 (ESV), “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you…” Scripture meditation is one of the primary ways we practice that abiding. We allow His words to dwell within us, becoming the lens through which we see our circumstances, make decisions, and respond to the world around us.
The psalmist describes the person who delights in God's Word as one who “meditates day and night” in Psalms 1:2 (ESV). This delight is not the result of mastering Scripture but of being mastered by it. As we return to the same passage throughout the day, the Holy Spirit uses it to renew our minds, quiet our anxieties, strengthen our faith, and draw our attention back to Christ. Meditation teaches us that God's Word is not only meant to inform us but to continually form us.
Guided Practice
Today, choose one or two verses from your Bible reading.
Read the passage slowly several times.
Notice a word or phrase that captures your attention.
Sit quietly with that phrase for a few moments.
Ask:
What does this reveal about Christ?
What invitation or promise is God placing before me?
Return to the verse throughout the day—while walking, waiting, or transitioning between tasks.
Instead of rushing to another passage, let this one become a companion throughout your day.
Pray:
"Jesus, let Your Word remain in me. Shape my thoughts, renew my heart, and help me become more aware of Your presence with every step I take."
Reflection Prompt
What truth from today's passage stayed with me throughout the day, and how did it draw me into deeper communion with Christ?
