Drawing Near to the Father Through Christ

Prayer is the practice of entering into fellowship with God through Jesus Christ. It is not simply presenting requests or completing a spiritual task—it is the privilege of communion with the Father. Because Christ has opened the way through His death and resurrection, we are invited to come before God with confidence, knowing we are welcomed by grace.

The writer of Hebrews 4:14–16 (ESV) reminds us that Jesus is our great High Priest who sympathizes with our weaknesses. Therefore, we are invited to “draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Prayer is possible because Christ stands on our behalf. Every conversation with the Father is grounded in His finished work, not our own spiritual performance.

Prayer also forms dependence. As we continually bring our joys, burdens, fears, and hopes before God, we learn to live with open hands rather than clenched fists. Instead of carrying every concern ourselves, we entrust them to the One who is both sovereign and good. Over time, prayer reshapes our hearts, aligning our desires with Christ and teaching us to rest in His wisdom. The greatest gift of prayer is not merely answered requests—it is deeper fellowship with the God who delights to be with His people.

Guided Practice

Today, practice prayer as communion with God rather than simply a list of requests.

Set aside a few uninterrupted minutes to:

• Praise God for who He is.

• Thank Him for specific evidences of His grace.

• Honestly share your joys, burdens, and concerns.

• Pray for someone else's needs.

• End by surrendering your plans into His hands.

Throughout the day, continue returning to Christ with simple prayers such as:

• "Jesus, help me trust You."

• "Father, thank You for Your faithfulness."

• "Holy Spirit, guide me in this moment."

Let each prayer become another step of abiding in Christ.

Pray:

"Father, thank You that through Jesus I have been welcomed into Your presence. Teach me to delight in communion with You. Let prayer become the rhythm of my day, drawing me ever closer to Christ and shaping my heart according to Your will."
