Rejoicing in the Hope of Christ
Celebration is the practice of intentionally rejoicing in God because of who He is and all He has done through Jesus Christ. It is the joyful response of hearts that have been redeemed by grace. Celebration reminds us that the Christian life is not sustained by duty alone, but by delight. We pause to remember the goodness of God so that gratitude becomes the rhythm of our lives.
The apostle Peter describes believers as those who rejoice in Christ “with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory” in 1 Peter 1:8–9 (ESV). This joy is not rooted in perfect circumstances but in a perfect Savior. Because Jesus has conquered sin and death, reconciled us to the Father, and secured an eternal inheritance for His people, we have reason to rejoice in every season. Our joy is anchored in the unchanging hope of the gospel.
Celebration also forms hope by helping us remember God's faithfulness. We recall answered prayers, unexpected mercies, quiet moments of grace, and the countless ways Christ has sustained us. Looking back strengthens our confidence to look forward. Every act of thanksgiving becomes a testimony that God has been faithful before, is faithful today, and will remain faithful tomorrow. As we celebrate His goodness, our hearts are lifted from the uncertainty of our circumstances to the certainty of His promises.
Guided Practice
Today, intentionally celebrate the faithfulness of God.
Gather with God's people in worship, if you are able.
Reflect on the past week and thank God for specific ways He has shown His grace.
Share an encouragement or testimony of God's faithfulness with someone else.
Enjoy one of God's gifts—a meal, fellowship, music, creation, laughter, or rest—with a heart of gratitude.
End your day by praising Christ for the hope of the gospel and the promise of His coming kingdom.
As you celebrate, continually return your heart to this truth:
"Jesus, You are my lasting joy and my living hope."
Pray:
"Father, thank You for the joy that is mine because of Christ. Help me remember Your faithfulness, delight in Your presence, and live with a hope that is rooted in Your unchanging promises. May my gratitude become a testimony that points others to the beauty and sufficiency of Jesus."
