Rejoicing in Christ, Our Living Hope
Celebration begins with Jesus Christ—risen, reigning, and present. Our joy is not grounded in circumstance, but in Him who has overcome sin and death. In 1 Peter 1:3 (ESV), we are reminded that “according to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” Celebration flows from this living hope.
Throughout Scripture, joy is the fitting response to God’s saving work. It is not shallow or fleeting, but anchored in what God has done and who He is. In Psalms 16:11 (ESV), we are told, “In your presence there is fullness of joy.” To celebrate is to enter into that joy—to recognize His presence and respond with gladness.
In Christ, celebration becomes both remembrance and anticipation. We remember His finished work and rejoice that we belong to Him. At the same time, we look forward to the day when joy will be complete. Celebration forms our hearts by turning them toward what is eternally true, shaping us into people who delight in God and receive His goodness with gratitude.
Guided Practice
Today, rejoice in Christ intentionally.
Begin with praise: listen to or sing a worship song that centers on who Jesus is and what He has done
Reflect on the past week and name specific ways you have seen His faithfulness
Share that joy: encourage someone, speak gratitude, or testify to His goodness in conversation
Receive a moment of goodness—a meal, rest, time with others—and consciously thank Christ for it
Let your celebration be unhurried and sincere. Joy deepens when it is received as a gift.
Reflection Prompt
What has Christ done that is worthy of my joy today—and how can I intentionally rejoice in Him?
