Rejoicing in the God Who Is Faithful
Celebration is the practice of intentionally rejoicing in who God is and what He has done. It lifts our eyes from what feels unfinished to what is already true. In Psalms 118:24 (ESV), we are invited, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Celebration receives the day as a gift and responds with gladness.
Throughout Scripture, God’s people are called to mark His faithfulness with joy. Celebration is not shallow or circumstantial—it is rooted in remembrance. In Nehemiah 8:10 (ESV), we are reminded, “the joy of the Lord is your strength.” This joy does not ignore difficulty; it strengthens us within it by anchoring us in God’s goodness.
In Christ, celebration deepens even further. We rejoice not only in what God has done in our lives, but in what He has accomplished through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Celebration becomes both remembrance and anticipation—looking back on God’s faithfulness and forward to the fullness of joy to come. It forms us into people who recognize and respond to grace.
Guided Practice
Today, intentionally practice joy.
Begin with praise: play worship music and engage with it—sing, reflect, or listen attentively
Reflect on the past week and write down specific ways you have seen God’s goodness and faithfulness
Share joy outwardly: encourage someone, express gratitude, or celebrate what God is doing in someone else’s life
Receive something good as a gift—an unhurried moment, a meal, or time with others—and thank God for it
Let your celebration be sincere and unhurried. Joy grows when it is noticed and named.
Reflection Prompt
Where have I seen God’s faithfulness this week—and how can I intentionally rejoice in it today?
