The Strength of Being Heard

Scripture

“Blessed be the Lord! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.” — Psalm 28:6 (ESV)

Devotional

Psalm 28 opens with urgency: “To you, O Lord, I call… be not deaf to me.” David is not offering a casual prayer—he is crying out from a place of dependence. There is an awareness that if God does not respond, there is nowhere else to turn.

This is the tension of prayer: we know God hears, yet there are moments when His silence feels heavy. David does not withdraw in that tension; he presses in. He asks, he pleads, he lifts his hands toward God. His posture reveals something essential—faith does not avoid need; it brings need fully into God’s presence.

Then, almost suddenly, the tone shifts: “Blessed be the Lord! For he has heard…” The circumstance has not visibly changed, but David’s confidence has. Something has settled in his heart. He knows he has been heard.

This is where the strength of the psalm lies—not in immediate resolution, but in assurance. “The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped.” The help David speaks of is not merely external; it is internal. Trust has taken root, and with it, strength.

To be heard by God is not a small thing. It means your voice matters before Him. It means your prayers are not lost or ignored. It means that even when answers feel delayed, you are not unseen.

The psalm closes by widening the scope: God is not only David’s strength, but the strength of His people. The God who hears you also sustains, shepherds, and carries His people forever.

To live in light of this is to continue praying—not because every answer is immediate, but because every prayer is received. You are not speaking into silence. You are speaking to a God who hears, and who strengthens those who trust in Him.
