Scripture Focus
"Tomorrow about this time I will send to you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be prince over my people Israel. He shall save my people from the hand of the Philistines. For I have seen my people, because their cry has come to me." – 1 Samuel 9:16 (ESV)
Devotional Reflection
Saul set out to look for lost donkeys. What he didn’t know was that God was setting the stage for his anointing as Israel’s first king. What felt to Saul like an ordinary errand—or even an inconvenience—was part of a story far bigger than he could see.
Loss and confusion often feel pointless in the moment. We may not understand why God allows certain paths or detours, and trust can feel fragile when the next step isn’t clear. But God sees the whole picture. He knows where each turn leads, and His plans are never random.
If we could see what He sees, we would rest more easily in His goodness. The same God who heard Israel’s cry and responded with a plan is the God who hears you now.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
God is always at work, even when I can’t see the full story.
Breath Prayer: Inhale: “You see the whole…” Exhale: “…and I trust Your plan.”
Practical Application
Think about a time when an unexpected event led to something good you didn’t foresee. Let that memory encourage you to trust God’s hand in your current uncertainties.
Journal Prompt
Where might God be working in ways I can’t yet see? How can I choose to trust Him in this part of the story?
Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You that my life is never random to You. When I cannot see the purpose in my steps, help me remember that You see the end from the beginning. Teach me to rest in Your bigger story. Amen.
Invitation to Live with Truth, Goodness, and Beauty
Even the detours of life can be divine direction in disguise when we trust the God who writes the whole story.
