Scripture Focus
Genesis 2:7 (ESV)
“Then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life…”
Lent begins with remembering what we are.
Dust — shaped by God’s hands.
Breath — sustained by God’s Spirit.
We are not self-made. We are not self-sustaining. We are not permanent. We are formed creatures, animated by borrowed breath.
The world trains us to live as if we are limitless. Lent gently reminds us that we are not. Our limits are not punishments; they are invitations. To need God is not weakness — it is design.
When we forget we are dust, we grasp for control. When we remember, we return to dependence.
Today, begin not with striving, but with humility.
You are dust — and you are deeply loved.
Practice
Sit quietly for five minutes.
Place your hands open in your lap.
Pray slowly:
“Lord, I receive my limits.
I receive my dependence.
Teach me to live from Your breath.”
Reflection Question
Where have I been living as if I am self-sustaining?
