“Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.”—1 Corinthians 8:1 ESV

Devotional

Jesus reveals that true spiritual maturity is expressed through self-giving love. He possessed all wisdom and authority, yet He willingly laid down His rights for the good of His people. His love now becomes the pattern for how we use our knowledge, freedom, and influence.

Paul reminds the Corinthians that their choices affect the faith of others. Knowing what is permissible does not settle every decision. Love asks how our actions might strengthen, protect, or encourage another person in her walk with Christ. Christian freedom is entrusted to us as an opportunity to serve.

The Spirit forms this considerate love within us as we remain attentive to Jesus. He teaches us to hold our preferences humbly, care about the consciences of others, and pursue what builds up the body of Christ. A life shaped by the cross gladly makes room for the spiritual good of another.
