Learning the Voice of the Shepherd

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”—John 10:27 ESV

Devotional

Jesus presents Himself as the Shepherd who knows His sheep personally. His voice carries the character of the One who laid down His life for them. He leads with truth, wisdom, and love, and His people learn to recognize Him through an ongoing relationship with Him.

We grow familiar with the voice of Christ as we listen to His words in Scripture and depend on the Holy Spirit to bring them to mind. His voice directs us toward holiness, draws us into trust, and keeps our attention fixed on who He is. Over time, His truth becomes increasingly recognizable amid the many voices competing for our allegiance.

Following Jesus begins with confidence in the Shepherd Himself. He knows the path ahead, understands every weakness we carry, and remains close as He leads. We can respond to His voice with obedience because the One speaking has already proven His love at the cross.
