Fight the Good Fight
Scripture
“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called.”—1 Timothy 6:12 ESV
Devotional
Paul describes faith as a fight because following Jesus requires perseverance. Competing desires, discouragement, distraction, and temptation continually seek to loosen our grip on what is true. The good fight is the daily choice to remain faithful to Christ and live according to the life He has given us.
Jesus has already secured the victory through His death and resurrection. He defeated sin, conquered death, and now intercedes for His people. We enter the struggle from the security of belonging to Him, strengthened by His Spirit and equipped with His Word.
To take hold of eternal life means living today in light of what is already ours in Christ. We resist what pulls us away from Him, return quickly when we stumble, and continue pursuing obedience with hope. The One who called us into this life remains present, faithful, and strong enough to keep us.
