Called to Be with Jesus

“And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach.”—Mark 3:14 ESV

Devotional

Before Jesus sent the disciples out to serve, He called them to be with Him.

Their calling began with His presence, not their productivity. They would eventually preach, lead, and serve, but none of that could replace the first and deepest invitation: to know Christ and remain near Him.

The same is true for us. Jesus may give us work to do, people to love, and responsibilities to carry, but our purpose is never separated from Him. We are not called to accomplish things for a distant Savior. We are called to live, serve, and obey from communion with the One who first called us to Himself.
