Scripture Focus — Revelation 21:5 (ESV)
“And he who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ Also he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’”
Devotional Reflection
As the year comes to a close, Scripture does not rush us into resolutions or self-improvement. Instead, it invites us to behold—to stop, look, and pay attention to what God is doing. “Behold,” the voice from the throne says, “I am making all things new.” Not you will make yourself new, but I am making all things new. Renewal begins not with our effort, but with God’s initiative.
This promise reframes how we look back on the year behind us. Some things may feel unfinished, broken, or disappointing. Other moments may carry joy and gratitude. God does not ask us to deny any of it. He asks us to trust that none of it is beyond His redeeming work. Newness, in God’s kingdom, is not about erasing the past but about transforming it—bringing life where there was weariness and hope where there was loss.
Standing on the edge of a new year, Advent hope teaches us to move forward with humility and trust. God is already at work—quietly, faithfully, decisively—making all things new in His time. Our role is not to force change, but to stay attentive and open to the work He is doing. Renewal is not something we chase; it is something we receive as we walk with the God who sits on the throne and keeps His word.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Breath Prayer
Inhale: You are making all things new.
Exhale: I trust Your work.
How to Practice a Breath Prayer
As you reflect on the year behind you, pause for a slow breath. Let this prayer remind you that God is actively at work—even in places that feel unresolved.
Practical Application
Take a few moments to review the past year with honesty. Instead of focusing on what you wish were different, ask God to show you where He has been present and where He may be bringing renewal.
Journal Prompt
What feels unfinished or heavy as this year comes to an end? How does God’s promise to make all things new shape the way you look ahead?
Closing Prayer
God of renewal, thank You that You are the One who makes all things new. As this year comes to a close, help me trust Your work in my life. Teach me to move forward with hope, openness, and confidence in Your faithfulness. Amen.
Invitation to train for godliness, run with aim, and finish the race.
Renewal belongs to God. Step into the days ahead with trust, knowing that He is faithfully at work as you continue the race set before you.
