Scripture Focus — John 15:12–13 (ESV)
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
Devotional Reflection
After Christmas, the question quietly shifts from What has God done? to How do we now live? Jesus answers that question simply and profoundly: “Abide in my love.” Love, in the life of a disciple, is not a momentary response to the incarnation—it is a way of remaining, a posture that shapes how we live day after day.
Abiding in love means staying rooted in what Christ has already given. Jesus does not command love as an abstract ideal; He defines it by His own life. His love is self-giving, sacrificial, and enduring. To abide in His love is to let that reality become the steady ground beneath our choices, relationships, and actions. Love becomes less about emotion and more about faithfulness—choosing presence, humility, and care even when it costs us something.
The days after Christmas invite us to practice this kind of love in ordinary spaces. The manger leads to the cross, and the cross shapes how we love others. As we remain in Christ’s love, we are slowly formed into people who reflect that love outward. Abiding does not demand perfection; it calls for staying close, returning often, and trusting that God’s love is actively forming us from the inside out.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Breath Prayer
Inhale: I remain in Your love.
Exhale: Teach me to love as You do.
How to Practice a Breath Prayer
When interactions feel difficult or draining today, pause and breathe this prayer. Let it reorient your heart toward Christ’s steady, self-giving love.
Practical Application
Look for one opportunity today to love in a tangible way—through patience, listening, generosity, or forgiveness. Let it be an expression of abiding rather than obligation.
Journal Prompt
What does abiding in Christ’s love look like in your daily rhythms right now? Where might God be inviting you to love more faithfully and consistently?
Closing Prayer
Jesus, thank You for loving me with a love that gives itself fully. Teach me to remain in Your love and to reflect it in how I live and love others. Form my heart through faithfulness, humility, and trust. Amen.
Invitation to train for godliness, run with aim, and finish the race.
Abiding is endurance practiced daily. Keep staying close to Christ, letting His love shape how you run the race set before you.
