Beholding Christ Above All

Worship is the practice of giving Jesus Christ the highest place in our hearts. Before it is expressed through singing, serving, or obedience, worship begins with seeing Christ for who He truly is. As we behold His holiness, His mercy, His authority, and His love, our hearts are drawn to adore Him. Worship is not about creating affection for Christ but responding to the beauty that already belongs to Him.

When the apostle John was given a vision of the risen Christ, he fell at His feet in awe (Revelation 1:17–18, ESV). Worship always begins with revelation. The more clearly we see Jesus, the more naturally praise follows. He is the Lamb who was slain, the risen King who reigns forever, and the Savior who has reconciled us to the Father. Every act of worship is a response to the reality of who He is and what He has accomplished.

Worship also reorders our loves. Throughout the week, our hearts are constantly tempted to give ultimate attention to success, comfort, approval, or control. Worship gently calls us back to our first love. As we fix our eyes on Christ, lesser things begin to find their proper place. We are reminded that our identity is not found in what we accomplish or possess, but in belonging to the One who loved us and gave Himself for us. As we behold Him, the Holy Spirit transforms us into His likeness.

Guided Practice

Today, intentionally give Christ your fullest attention.

• Read a passage that reveals the glory and character of Jesus.

• Spend time worshiping through song, prayer, or quiet praise.

• Write down three reasons Christ is worthy of your worship today.

• Thank Him for who He is before thanking Him for what He has done.

• Offer one area of your life to Him in joyful surrender.

Whenever your mind begins to drift throughout the day, quietly pray:

"Jesus, lift my eyes to You. You alone are worthy of my worship."

Allow every moment of praise to draw your heart back to the One who is worthy of all glory.

Pray:

"Lord Jesus, You are worthy of all honor, glory, and praise. Capture my heart with the beauty of who You are. Teach me to love You above every lesser affection, and let my life become a continual act of worship that reflects Your goodness and grace."
