✨ Today’s Discipline | Service

Becoming the Hands and Feet of Christ

Service is the practice of expressing the love of Christ through humble, tangible acts of care for others. It begins not with what we do, but with what Christ has done. Jesus came not to be served, but to serve, giving His life for the sake of others. In Mark 10:45 (ESV), He says, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Service is the overflow of His life at work within us.

Because we have been loved by Christ, we are free to love others without needing recognition, repayment, or praise. Service shifts our attention away from ourselves and toward the needs of our neighbors. It teaches us to see people as Christ sees them—not as interruptions to our plans, but as opportunities to reflect His compassion and grace.

This discipline forms humility and attentiveness. The kingdom of God often advances through ordinary acts of faithfulness: a word of encouragement, a listening ear, a meal shared, a burden carried. As we serve, we participate in the self-giving love of Christ. What seems small in the eyes of the world becomes significant in the kingdom because it reflects the heart of Jesus.

Guided Practice

Today, ask the Lord to make you attentive to opportunities to serve.

Begin with this prayer:

“Jesus, help me see the people around me through Your eyes and love them with Your love.”

Then intentionally choose one act of service:

  • Encourage someone with specific and sincere words

  • Offer practical help to a friend, coworker, or family member

  • Listen attentively without rushing to give advice

  • Meet a need quietly and without seeking recognition

  • Use your time, resources, or gifts to bless someone else

As you serve, remember that you are not merely doing something for Christ—you are joining Him in what He is already doing.

Reflection Prompt

Who did God place in my path to love today, and what did serving them teach me about the heart of Christ?
