✨ Today’s Discipline | Scripture Meditation
Remaining with Christ Through His Word
Scripture meditation is the practice of lingering with God’s Word until it moves from the page into the heart. In a culture that values speed, meditation invites us to slow down. Rather than reading more, we stay longer. Rather than gathering information, we seek transformation. The goal is not simply to understand a passage, but to remain with Christ through it.
The psalmist describes the blessed person as one whose “delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night” in Psalms 1:2 (ESV). Meditation is an act of delight because it treats God’s Word as something worth savoring. It is the difference between glancing at a meal and slowly enjoying it. We return to a verse again and again, allowing its truth to settle into our minds, affections, and desires.
Jesus tells His disciples in John 15:4 (ESV), “Abide in me, and I in you.” Scripture meditation is one way we practice that abiding. As we remain with His words, the Spirit uses them to shape our thoughts, strengthen our faith, and draw us into deeper communion with Christ. Over time, what we meditate upon begins to influence how we think, respond, and live.
Guided Practice
Today, choose a short passage of Scripture—one or two verses is enough.
Read the passage slowly three or four times
Notice a word, phrase, or image that captures your attention
Repeat that phrase quietly and thoughtfully
Ask:
What does this reveal about Christ?
What is God inviting me to trust, receive, or remember?
Return to the verse throughout the day whenever you have a spare moment
Rather than rushing to the next passage, remain with this one and allow it to accompany you.
Pray:
“Jesus, let Your Word dwell deeply within me. Teach me not only to read Your truth, but to remain in it.”
Reflection Prompt
What truth from today’s passage stayed with me most, and how did meditating on it shape my awareness of Christ throughout the day?
