Telling the Story of God’s Faithfulness
Celebration is the practice of recognizing what God has done and responding with joy. Throughout Scripture, God’s people do not simply experience His faithfulness and move on. They remember it, speak about it, sing about it, and tell the next generation. Celebration keeps the goodness of God from becoming something we quickly forget.
Psalm 126:3 declares, “The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad” (ESV). The psalm looks back on God’s restoration while His people are still asking Him to restore again. Their story is not finished, yet they can already name what God has done. Celebration teaches us to do the same. We do not need every prayer answered or every difficulty resolved before we have a testimony. We can look backward and find evidence that God has already been faithful.
For Christians, our greatest testimony is the gospel. Jesus has died, Jesus has risen, and through Him we have been reconciled to God. But the faithfulness of Christ also becomes visible in countless smaller ways: strength when we thought we could not continue, provision at the right moment, conviction that led us back to Him, comfort in grief, growth we did not notice happening, or grace that sustained us through a difficult season.
When we tell these stories, celebration becomes communal. Someone else’s testimony can strengthen our faith, and ours can strengthen theirs. Remembering together helps us recognize that the God who has been faithful before has not changed. Celebration looks backward with gratitude so that we can move forward with greater confidence in Him.
Guided Practice
Today, tell one story of God’s faithfulness.
Think back over the past week, month, year, or even further.
Ask yourself:
Where has God provided for me?
How has He sustained me through something difficult?
Where can I see evidence of growth that only became noticeable over time?
What prayer has He answered?
When has Scripture met me exactly where I needed it?
How has Christ become more precious to me?
Choose one story and write it down in a few sentences.
Then tell someone. Share it over lunch, send a text, mention it in conversation, or tell someone at church:
“I was thinking today about something God has done…”
Don’t worry about making the story impressive. Faithfulness does not have to be dramatic to be worth celebrating.
Pray:
“Father, You have done great things for me. Forgive me for how quickly I can receive Your grace and move on without remembering. Open my eyes to the ways You have carried, provided for, corrected, comforted, and formed me. Give me joy in telling the story of Your faithfulness, and let my testimony point beyond Your gifts to the goodness of Christ Himself.”
Reflection Prompt
What story of God’s faithfulness do I never want to forget—and who might be encouraged if I told them about it?
